On the 4th February, Edward and Abigail had the pleasure of attending a fantastic community event hosted by the Devon & Cornwall Police Rural Affairs Team at Blisland Village Hall. The focus was on the important issue of livestock worrying and how we can work together to keep our animals safe.
The evening brought together farmers from across Bodmin Moor, police officers, and a wide range of partner organisations, including the NFU, FCN, Cornish Mutual, Harpers Feed, ATV Trac, CLA, and more. Trev from The Sheep Show gave an insightful talk about the real impacts livestock worrying has on farming families.
A key message from the evening was just how much livestock worrying goes unreported. Without reports, it’s harder for the police to target resources where they’re needed most. We can all help by speaking up and reporting incidents, whether it’s happening live or after the fact.
The event also highlighted the updated Dogs Protection of Livestock legislation, coming into effect on 18 March 2026, which provides stronger legal measures to protect sheep, cows, and other farm animals. Read more here.
We left the event feeling inspired by the commitment of the police, local businesses, and farmers working together to protect our rural communities and livestock. If you witness an attack happening, call 999, and to report an incident after the fact, call 101 or report online here.
At Farm Cornwall, we’re proud to support initiatives like this and encourage all farmers to stay engaged, share their experiences, and help build safer, stronger rural communities.
