Farming with Nature with Cornwall Wildlife Trust

March 28 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

We would like to invite farmers to attend this event where we will introduce our new project to you:

The Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Farm Advice team have been funded through Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) to support 20 farmers by offering specialist business advice on farm change options: integrating production and environmental planning to support farm resilience. The advice will be presented in the form of farm reports and will cover:

  • Specialist business advice (with CWT and land agent: Carter Jonas).
  • Advice on habitat and soil health improvements linked to funding opportunities (CS, SFI, FiPL, EWCO).
  • Assessment of opportunities to engage with the local community through access improvements or other measures.
  • Identification of heritage features with opportunities for conservation, enhancement or interpretation.
  • Graphic modelling to show farm habitat and production change over time.
  • Guidance on open water (ponds and scrapes) creation.
  • A UK Habitats Classification Survey which will inform a BNG / Carbon Management plan (chargeable addition).

We are focussing on 6 Cornwall National Landscape (AONB) sections only:

Your farm or landholding needs to fall inside or border one of the sections listed above if you’d like to be involved in the project.

During this event, we will outline the free support that we can offer you in more detail and aim to gather interest from any farmers who would like to work with us. The project ends in March 2025 and we’d aim to start working with you asap.

We have invited FiPL grant recipients: Matt Dale – arable and livestock farmer near Falmouth, and Ben Thomas – livestock farmer near Bomin, to speak. Dave Oates, who farms on the Lizard, will give a presentation on environmental interventions and how they can benefit your farm business. We will end with a short interactive session where we will explore the barriers to environmental interventions and whether these can be overcome.

For further information or if you’d like to be involved in the project but cannot attend this event, please contact farm.ecology.advice@cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk
