The West Penwith ESA ends this year it would appear that  40% of the land area will fall into the HLS pot, equal to 3840ha. The remaining 60% 5670ha will either be ELS or have no classificaion. For those farmers who fall into this bracket ELS is a fairly simple scheme not as over arching as ESA or as exacting as HLS. It can be tailored to your needs and for most of you without any change in management you will meet the criteria for ELS. If you are interested in applying for ELS we can help. Payments for ELS are £12/acre or £30/ha, it may also be worth considering the OELS scheme also. The Organic payments are £175/ha each year for year one and two then £60/ha for years 3/4/5 if you continue after year 5 it remains at £60/ha. Buildings refurbished with ESA grant aid can now be used for alternative uses once the scheme ends officially.
