The last bit of harvest is still to be done and the forecast for the week doesn’t look good. It will be one of those harvest where you just have to go when you can and get as much cut and baled in that opportunity as you can.

Storing wet grain at this time is difficult, grain coming off the combine at anything above 16% will not store. if you have no drying facilities then hiring a mobile dryer is one option, this is expensive when you consider how much deisel is. Crimping is also an alternative particularly if the crop is wet – over 22% and you are going to feed it yourself anyway. If you are waiting for grain to be moved or drying and the crop is wet, keep moving the grain, screw in grain blowers are also very useful in getting rid of hot spots, for cooling grain after drying and can keep grain “fresh” if they are regularly moved around the grain heap over time
